I am a book addict (hoping to have the time to read again someday😉 ) and both my husband and me enjoy reading books to and with our kids whenever we can. I believe that it is never too early to encourage the pleasure of reading.
Especially with our nearly two year old, I can see how much fun he has now to listen to different stories and to recognize the characters in the books. Thanks to the nursery rhythms we sing and the books we read together he has already learned so many words in all of the three languages we speak at home (French, German and English).
I love spending hours in book shops (Kinokuniya in Dubai Mall is a little part of paradise for me😉 ) but I have to admit that this is getting increasingly difficult with a toddler and a newborn in tow.
So, recently, I have stumbled upon a new concept in Dubai: Kitabox. The idea is simple: Subscribe for three, six months or one year and, every month, your kiddies will receive one book, carefully selected for their educational value, along with a newsletter, an activities booklet and other surprises. I also love the bookshelf that is offered with the annual subscription! I was actually looking for a bookshelf like this but couldn’t find any😉
When you subscribe, you need to indicate the age of your child: 2-4, 4-6, 6-8 or 8-10 years old as, of course, the books vary depending on the age of your kids. You then select the language of your choice, either English or Arabic, and voilà, that’s it. Delivery is free if you get your box delivered in one of the participating schools (otherwise, count AED 30 for delivery in Dubai and Abu Dhabi).
I really like this concept, especially for the hot Dubai summer months! There’s even a special Summer Kitabox that you can order before July 20th and that includes three books around the topics of Family & Friendship, as well as a newsletter, a booklet of fun activities, a sticker activity book and a book journal. The activities booklet is a great way to interact with your little one and talk about a book, especially for the younger ones, such as my little Luca.

A nice activity for an afternoon spent inside. And quite interesting for Dubai mummies who are not traveling immediately and who have to entertain their kids during another month or two, like me😉.

Happy summer, happy reading, mummies!
