I couldn’t be more excited to announce my collaboration with thejamjar for an amazing project: For the first time, this well-known art studio in Al Quoz will open its doors exclusively for the little ones and their parents!
Together with their experienced team, we have come up with a Painting & Toy Casting Workshop that is tailored to tots and small kids aged 2 to 5.
Date: Saturday, February 11, 2017
Time: 3pm to 5pm
Location: thejamjar painting studio, Unit H74, Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz 3, Dubai
The little ones will learn the basics of painting, explore different painting techniques and discover new colours by colour mixing. With the help of their parents, they will create a sculpture of their favourite toy through the process of casting. Coffee and other refreshments will be provided to make sure parents can fully enjoy this Saturday afternoon activity with their kids.
Every child is invited to bring one of their favourite toys that responds to the following criteria:
– Made out of plastic or rubber
– Not bigger than 5cm x 9cm
– No small pieces or details to avoid that the sculpture breaks easily
The following pictures will give you an idea of a toy that can be used for the toy casting. Should you have questions regarding which toy to use, please drop me an email at [email protected].
Please note that the toy might get a bit dirty in the process. You should be able to clean it relatively easily though.
Both children and parents should not be wearing their best clothes even though aprons will be provided. It can still get a bit messy. And that’s what we want 😉
To register, simply drop me an email ([email protected]) with the name and age of your little one, as well as your name and mobile number. Should you need to cancel for any unforeseen reason, we kindly request you to inform us at least 24h in advance.
The course fee is AED 150 per child for this two-hour workshop. Kiddies will get to take home their painting and the sculpture of their favourite toy that they have created and painted themselves.
Spaces are limited, so booking is essential. Every child should be accompanied by an adult.
Can’t wait to see you there!!

“Art helps in developing a child’s motor skill, language, decision making and visual learning. When kids are encouraged to express themselves and take risks in creating art, they develop a sense of innovation that will be important in their adult lives.”
1. What’s thejamjar?
thejamjar is a do-it-yourself painting studio which brings art alive in a relaxed environment, providing a platform for you to unleash your creativity with an unlimited supply of paint on canvas.
The studio is equipped with easels, paints, art supplies, a coffee bar and music, providing a complete creative experience. thejamjar’s friendly and inspiring environment is perfectly suited for all age groups and skill levels. Besides that, we are a community art space that holds workshops that are open to all skill levels and events on any form of art for children and adults.
2. Why is it important to expose young kids to art?
The presence of art in a home has a lot of developmental benefits for a child’s growth. With an easy access to all digital entertainment and recreations this may have an effect in a child’s ability to connect to people and their surroundings. Art helps in developing a child’s motor skill, language, decision making and visual learning. For very young children, making art—or just talking about it—provides opportunities to learn words for colours, shapes and actions. When toddlers are as young as a year old, parents can do simple activities such as crumpling up paper and calling it a “ball.” When kids are encouraged to express themselves and take risks in creating art, they develop a sense of innovation that will be important in their adult lives.
With the help of the people surrounding the child, they can go beyond just learning a skill to express a personal voice. Your child learns to express feelings, with or without words and observe the world carefully and creatively.
3. What’s the aim of this workshop?
This workshop is divided into two activities that both the parents and child will enjoy and even learn to do at home. Children will discover that mixing the primary colours creates a new colour and learn different ways to use paintbrushes and other mediums on paper. The Toy Casting activity will require both the parent and child’s participation. This activity will help participants gain a better understanding on how a sculpture can be made by casting a toy and recognise the visual impact of the casted parts of the sculpture. At the end of this workshop, both the parents and child get to take home their collaborative toy casting sculpture and painting and hopefully inspire them to explore art with home D-I-Ys together.
Hi there! I’m Tani De Gregorio. The one behind this little blog. ‘Our big Dubai adventure’ started about three years ago when I quit my job in a multinational in Switzerland to follow my husband to sunny Dubai where we are living now with our two little munchkins, Luca (3) and Maëva (nearly 2).
This blog is not about the glamorous life of an expat wife. There’s just too many baby wipes and too few high heels in my life for that.
Instead, it’s about our daily adventures in the sandpit. About motherhood away from home. It’s about the kids. About fun things for them to do. Things you might not have heard of otherwise. It’s about workshops. And cool places to explore. In this amazing city we call home. At least for a little while…
