ABOUT ME

Hi there! I’m Tani De Gregorio. The one behind this little blog. ‘Our big Dubai adventure’ started about three years ago when I quit my job in a multinational in Switzerland to follow my husband to sunny Dubai where we are living now with our two little munchkins, Luca (3) and Maëva (17 months).

This blog is not about the glamorous life of an expat wife. There’s just too many baby wipes and too few high heels in my life for that.

Instead, it’s about our daily adventures in the sandpit. About motherhood away from home. It’s about the kids. About fun things for them to do. Things you might not have heard of otherwise. It’s about workshops. And cool places to explore. In this amazing city we call home. At least for a little while…

This was me last November. Only I had 10 solo days in Australia, affectionately known as #mummaonthelooseAUS. Eight and a half years of always being around and yes, letting go was an invaluable experience for us all. This was all made possible because I have an amazing husband who, single handedly took over the home front while I was away. He has know developed a whole new appreciation for all I do. Great post Tani, looks like you had an incredible time. X

I’m sure this trip did a lot for you as a couple, and so it’s worth it. Me, on the other hand, am still solo vacation-less at 5 years!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Tani smile this post is very timely for me! Me and my husband were also planning our vacation for some ‘US time’ to celebrate our 3 years of marriage. I was really hesitant about it not until I read this. Now I’m decided to go for it smile cheers and more love to you and your hubby! <3

It’s always a hard decision to make but when you do, it can be the best ever! We also waited til Joshua was much older (and Liam had been born) before braving a getaway just the 2 of us. It was amazing and weird all wrapped up in one.

Hi! I'm Zeyna!

I am yet to peel off the layers. I am sure it did wonders for your marriage, because once the kids arrive, we tend to forget our partners for sure. Well done for going through with it as I am sure it was a very difficult decision to make.

I really want to escape with my hubby but there is noone in Dubai who would keep our kids. Sigh.

I am the same..have never been away from the kids for more than a few hours! I see people all around me going on getaways without kids, but I cant imagine leaving my kids behind…and the days when it all gets to me and I really want to just go somewhere “just us”, my husband tells me there is “no us without them” and then I know deep down that he is right. It takes a lot of strength as a woman to be able to do this…glad you had a great time.

Thank you, Latika. We had a great time and it was important for us. No us without them is so beautifully said and very true as well. I didn’t stop thinking of Luca while we were not here. And I guess the ‘no us without them’ is true even if you go away for one or two nights wink

As much as I admire this, I’ve never been able to do it. Honest confession: 6 years and counting, always around.
